Maybank’s Commitment in Advancing Sustainable Finance in Cambodia

Maybank, ASEAN's fourth-largest bank by assets, continues to lead the charge in advancing sustainable finance across the region including its efforts to strengthen its Cambodia operations through the integration of ESG considerations.

Anchored on the M25+ strategy to become the Sustainability Leader in Southeast Asia, Maybank is committed to realizing this vision through the mobilization of sustainable finance, fostering a low-carbon economy, and enhancing community well-being via financial inclusion and empowerment initiatives. Its four holistic sustainability commitments include mobilizing RM80 billion in sustainable finance by 2025, improving the lives of two million households across ASEAN by 2025, achieving a carbon neutral position of its own emissions by 2030 and net zero carbon equivalent position by 2050, and achieving one million hours per annum on sustainability and delivering one thousand significant UN SDG-related outcomes by 2025.

In Cambodia, where Maybank has operated for over 30 years, its extensive network of 21 branches serves as a cornerstone for delivering tailored, sustainability-driven financial solutions, aligned with the adoption of the Cambodian Sustainable Finance Principles. Initiatives such as the Sustainable Financing Programme and SME Building Capability and Capability Programme empower SMEs and promote social progress, with a targeted focus on SME exporters and women-led enterprises to foster inclusive economic growth.

In addition, Maybank promotes environmental responsibility through its Sustainable Auto Finance Programme, offering innovative financing solutions to accelerate the adoption of electric (EV) and hybrid vehicles.

Beyond business, Maybank’s commitment to community empowerment is reflected in initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and impactful, community-driven programmes. Efforts in financial inclusion, education, and social upliftment, such as Maybank Women Eco-Weavers Programme, CashVille Kidz Financial Literacy Programme and the Reach Independence & Sustainable Entrepreneurship (R.I.S.E.) Programme targeted at People with Disabilities, embody its mission to humanize financial services and foster inclusive progress across ASEAN.

Within the organization, Maybank Cambodia established a Sustainability Governance Structure in 2022, empowering the Board and senior management team to integrate ESG considerations into decision-making. Frameworks such as the Sustainability Framework, Sustainable Product Framework as well as ESG Risk Framework and Climate Risk Policy, further reinforce the Bank’s capacity to deliver impactful green, social, and transition-oriented solutions.

Through its strong regional presence and unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable finance, Maybank continues to contribute towards strengthening Cambodia’s financial ecosystem while contributing to a resilient, equitable, and sustainable future across ASEAN.
